SAMSAites ACE THE TWO OCEANS MARATHON 2018

Pic 3

Six employees of the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), also known as ‘SAMSAites’ participated for the first time as members of the SAMSA Athletics Club in the 2018 installment of the SA Two Oceans Marathon held annual under the Table Mountain in the coastal city of Cape Town.

Importantly, they finished the race – one in the 56km and the other five in the 21.1km race, earning themselves medals in the process!

The six included (in no particular order) Mr Sobantu Tilayi (Chief Operations Officer) [not in photos], Ms Lesego Mashishi (Human Capital), Mr Alex Tlatla (IT), Ms Babalwa Macingwane and Ms Dineo Mke (Finance), Ms Sthakazile Zondo (Certification).

Salient points about the SAMSA Athletics Club

  • The SAMSA Athletics Club is fairly new, established formally on  29 March 2017.
  • It is open to SAMSA staff members country wide.
  • SAMSA pays for the annual club registration fee and members pay for their own race registration.
  • Since formation, members have participated in selected registered ASA  (AGN) events including the Comrades Marathon, the 702 Walk the Talk,  and the Soweto Marathon.
  • Other races members have participated in include the ‘Iron Man Triathlon’ and the ‘Spar ladies race’ which take place in Durban, PE , Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg.
